This past weekend, twelve Mariners and 30+ sailors participated in this year’s Mariner National Rendezvous from Niantic to Essex Island Marina. A small craft advisory forecasted for Friday made us a little nervous, and while it may have been a lot worse in the middle of Long Island Sound, it turned out to be perfect winds for a broad reach as we hugged the shore.
On Saturday, some folks motored up to explore Hamburg Cove, and in the afternoon, almost everyone went for a sail on the ONRUST, a Connecticut River Museum-owned replica of Adriaen Block’s ship he used in 1614 to explore the Connecticut and Hudson Rivers. That evening, we had our “Open Boat” time at the docks, and we were rewarded yet again on Sunday morning with a nice breeze allowing us to sail all the way home.
There is a big Google Photo Album where participants have been sharing all their pictures - so far there are 341 and counting! Check it out here.
