End of the Season

With obligations looming at work and home, I decided to pack it in and call it a season while the weather was ideal for an easy haul-out. It was very difficult not to raise the sails instead and take advantage of the mild temperatures, high tide, and perfect breeze, but I knew this opportunity might not easily come again, so I reluctantly began the de-rigging process.

My father was kind enough once again to help, and we removed the mainsail, rudder, and boom, then lowered the mast and tied up the shrouds. I beached ORION to offload some gear, then motored over to the launch ramp where I was met with the car and trailer. We brought her back to the house where I powerwashed the bottom and put away the Sportyak for the winter before heading back to work and eventually home with her in tow.

It has been a great season, although I always wish I had more opportunities to go sailing. Nevertheless, I have many fond memories - and pictures - to look back on during the winter as I dream about the 2027 sailing season.

I’d much rather be sailing.

Waiting to be hauled out.

Beached to unload some gear.

In the parking lot at my work.

Motoring to the launch ramp.

Back home in the driveway!
